Kindergarten

Oxley Kids Kindergarten provides a happy and relaxed learning environment, designed to build children’s confidence and independence, and to nurture positive attitudes towards each other, towards teachers, and towards learning in general. It is in discovering the importance of co-operation and mutual respect that children are introduced to fundamental Christian principles.

At Oxley Kids, we are blessed to be able to offer both Short Day and Long Day options for our 3 and 4 year olds. Please read the following information carefully, and chat to us if it needs clarification, to help you in deciding which option is best for your child and your family situation.

For all of our programs, our planning focuses on specific objectives for each child, taking into account his or her individual creative interests and ideas. Cognitive, perceptual and physical skills are then practised and developed through art and play.

All of our 3 and 4 year old programs aim to develop independence, build social skills and resilience, and grow an enquiring mind. Of course, as part of these programs, the children will also continually be learning more academic and physical skills (eg numeracy and literacy skills, including a phonics program for our 4 year olds, gross motor skills (eg climbing, balancing, jumping), and fine motor skills such as drawing/writing, threading and cutting). They all include group times as well as times of choosing from intentional play activities, planned by the teachers for their educational outcomes. They are all delivered by qualified Early Childhood Teachers and run as funded sessional kindergarten programs, with the option to incorporate longer hours of care if the Long Day Kindergarten is selected.

It is important to emphasise that the quality of education and the outcomes for both streams are identical. As each is structured differently, and delivered by a different teacher with a different group of children, there will be some differences in program delivery, but they operate under the same Early Years Learning Frameworks, the same Law and Regulations, and with the same commitment to quality education. Our view is that a child should not receive an inferior education simply because his or her parents need longer hours of care than that offered in a short day program.

3 year old SHORT DAY KINDERGARTEN
Each child attends for at least one 5.5 hour per week, with a maximum of 3 sessions per week. For 2023, there will not be a separate Short Day class, but there will be the option to attend for Short Day hours within a Long Day Kindergarten room. A Short Day booking runs from 8:30am to 2pm, and has some flexibility on which days are attended (subject to availability). Short Day bookings only continue during kindergarten terms. Child Care Subsidy applies. A discount is offered for payment up front of the full annual fee, only if CCS is not claimed. If your child is under 3 years old, our team will work out with you when they can start.

3 year old LONG DAY KINDERGARTEN
Our long day programs operate between 6:30am-6:30pm each day, providing a longer period of care than that available in our short day programs. The Kindergarten program runs for 5 hours each day (8:30am-2:00pm), with extended care available before and after the Kindergarten time. With up to 22 children each day, the room will include different children on different days. This program is billed on a daily basis, and Child Care Subsidy applies. You may choose the days and times booked when utilising this option, subject to availability. All bookings continue throughout the year (including school holidays).

4 year old SHORT DAY KINDERGARTEN

This operates in the same way as most Kindergartens. Each child attends for 3, 5.5 hour sessions per week, from 8:30am to 2pm. Subject to availability, specific days may be requested, and additional casual days in the Long Day Program may also be requested. This program is billed by the week, attracts Child Care Subsidy, and only runs during school terms. If CCS is not claimed, fee payments may be made for the whole year in advance, attracting a discount. For 2023, all Short Day Kindergarten placements will be within a hybrid Long Day Kindergarten room.

4 year old LONG DAY KINDERGARTEN
Our long day programs operate between 6:30am-6:30pm each day, providing a longer period of care than that available in our short day programs. The Kindergarten program runs for 5 hours each day (8:30am-2:00pm), with extended care available before and after the Kindergarten time. Children need to be enrolled for at least 3 days to allow for their 15 hours of kindergarten. With up to 22 children each day, the room will include different children on different days. This program is billed on a daily basis, and Child Care Subsidy applies. You may choose the days and times booked when utilising this option, subject to availability. All bookings continue throughout the year (including school holidays).

Please Note:
Actual days and programs offered each year depend on demand and availability of space and staff. Our team will contact those on the waiting list before offering places, to outline possible available options that may suit your family.
