Kindergarten

Oxley Kids Kindergarten provides a happy and relaxed learning environment, designed to build children’s confidence and independence, and to nurture positive attitudes towards each other, towards teachers, and towards learning in general. It is in discovering the importance of co-operation and mutual respect that children are introduced to fundamental Christian principles.

At Oxley Kids, we are blessed to be able to offer both Short Day and Long Day options for our 3 and 4 year olds. Please read the following information carefully, and chat to us if it needs clarification, to help you in deciding which option is best for your child and your family situation.

For all of our programs, our planning focuses on specific objectives for each child, taking into account his or her individual creative interests and ideas. Cognitive, perceptual and physical skills are then practised and developed through art and play.

All of our 3 and 4 year old programs aim to develop independence, build social skills and resilience, and grow an enquiring mind. Of course, as part of these programs, the children will also continually be learning more academic and physical skills (eg numeracy and literacy skills, including a phonics program for our 4 year olds, gross motor skills (eg climbing, balancing, jumping), and fine motor skills such as drawing/writing, threading and cutting). They all include group times as well as times of choosing from intentional play activities, planned by the teachers for their educational outcomes. They are all delivered by qualified Early Childhood Teachers. Our 4 year old programs, run as funded sessional kindergarten programs, with the option to incorporate longer hours of care if the Long Day Kindergarten is selected.

It is important to emphasise that the quality of education and the outcomes for both streams are identical. As each is structured differently, and delivered by a different teacher, there will be some differences in program delivery, but they operate under the same Early Years Learning Frameworks, the same Law and Regulations, and with the same commitment to quality education. Our view is that a child should not receive an inferior education simply because his or her parents need longer hours of care than that offered in a sessional program.

3 year old LONG DAY KINDERGARTEN
Our long day programs operate between 6:30am-6:30pm each day, providing a longer period of care than that available in our short day programs. With up to 22 children each day, the room will include different children on different days. This program is billed on a daily basis, and Child Care Benefit and Rebate apply. You may choose the days and times booked when utilising this option. All bookings continue throughout the year (including school holidays).

3 year old SHORT DAY KINDERGARTEN
This operates in the same way as most 3 year old Kindergartens. Each child is placed in a group with up to 21 other children, and they all attend for 2 sessions of 3 hours each, per week (9am-12noon, Monday and Friday). There is no flexibility in times or days. This program is billed by the term, does not attract Child Care Benefit or Rebate, and only runs during school terms. Children need to be 3 years old before they can start in this program. A discount is offered for payment up front of the full annual fee.

4 year old LONG DAY KINDERGARTEN
Our long day programs operate between 6:30am-6:30pm each day, providing a longer period of care than that available in our short day programs. The Kindergarten program runs for 5 hours each day (8:30am-2:00pm), with extended care available before and after the Kindergarten time, and children need to be enrolled for at least 3 days to allow for their 15 hours of kindergarten. With up to 22 children each day, the room will include different children on different days. This program is billed on a daily basis, and Child Care Benefit and Rebate apply. You may choose the days and times booked when utilising this option, subject to availability. All bookings continue throughout the year (including school holidays).

4 year old SHORT DAY KINDERGARTEN
This operates in the same way as most Kindergartens. Each child is placed in a group with up to 21 other children, and they all attend for 3 sessions per week, totalling 15 hours of kindergarten. Session run from 8:30am until 2:00pm, Monday to Friday. There is no flexibility in times or days once assigned to a group. This program is billed by the term, does not attract Child Care Benefit or Rebate, and only runs during school terms. A discount is offered for payment up front of the full annual fee.

Please Note:
We do not offer care before and after Short Day Kindergarten. We have found that the children do not cope with the transition and therefore we do not recommend it. You are, however, welcome to request long day care on different days to the short day program, but priority will be given to children enrolled in the Long Day Kindergarten program.
